I am tired of feeling broke.
Now, I’m not broke with a capital B. But, I’m also not ballin’ with a capital B. I am blessed with a capital “B” though, (insert 5 minute praise break here), and I’ve spent a lot of time praying lately about my financial situation.
When I graduated from college with my fresh, crisp journalism degree in hand, I thought for sure I would be living lavishhhh. I thought I’d be able to go to
(1) happy hour a couple times a week with friends and
(2) go shopping on the regular and
(3)take an international trip at least once a year.
Wellllpppp, that hasn’t quite been the case. I’ve been doing what I can with what I have to live my best life, but sometimes, and maybe even often times, I’ve felt like a broke baddie.
I remember when I first started dating my boo, (Heyyyyyy baeeeeeee!) he would take me on these wonderful dates, and still does!
But, the truth is, in many cases, I wouldn’t have been able to afford the things we did comfortably. on my own. I’m lucky I didn’t end up in one of those “so, you tryna split the check?” first date situations because my answer would be a casual “helllll nawwwww.”
But, in spite of feeling like a broke baddie sometimes, the Lord has been so good to me in the midst of my fresh-out-of-school financial situation. In the past year and a half, my salary increased by more than $15,000.
I was able to go from living with two roommates, to living on my own in a cute one-bedroom apartment, just minutes from my job. I’m by no means at any sort of financial peak and I still live paycheck-to-paycheck most months, working to make sure I budget enough to pay all my bills.
But, I’m doing it. I’m making it. There’s so much in store for me financially and otherwise and it’s the same for you. Now, with this article I’m preaching to the choir and preaching to myself because I’m in the process of transforming my financial mindset to create space for abundance to flow.
If you’re tired of being a broke baddie and are ready to make room in your life for that papeerrrr, try repeating these affirmations whenever you deal with your money.
When you pay a bill, when you purchase something at the store, and when you’re trying to figure out how to fund the trip you’ve been dreaming of. Let these truths get into the inner workings of your mind and watch your attitude towards your financial situation shift.
